Prime minister Manmohan Singh, US president Barack Obama and 17 other world leaders met here today in a bid to break the deadlock over a political statement on tackling global warming, ahead of the high-level segment of the climate conference.
Apart from Singh and Obama, the leaders who attended the meeting included British premier Gordon Brown, Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, German chancellor Angela Merkel, French president Nicolas Sarkozy, Brazil's Lula Da Silva, South Africa's Jacob Zuma, European commission president Jose Manuel Barroso, Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama and Chinese vice foreign minister He Yafei.
Singh also had a quick meeting with other representatives of Basic countries comprising Brazil, South Africa, India and China.
