Nigerian national Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, charged with trying to blow up a Northwest Airlines plane near Detroit, has been discharged from the hospital and moved to a federal prison.
Abdulmutallab has been moved from the hospital to an undisclosed secure location, US Marshal Service spokeswoman Nikki Credic told PTI. Unwilling to disclose the new location of Abdulmutallab because of security reasons, she said the medical needs of the arrested Nigerian national would be met by the authorities.
Abdulmutallab had sustained burn injuries in his failed bid to blow up the Amsterdam-Detroit North West Airplane as it was preparing to land at the Detroit International airport. He was being treated at the Ann Arbour hospital.
However, the court appointed attorney of Abdulmutallab, Miriam Siefer, told the local Channel 7 network that the Nigerian national has been moved to a federal prison in Milan, about 50 miles from Detroit.
The UN Marshal Service Spokeswoman said it was not sure if Abdulmutallab would be produced before the court hearing on Monday. Abdulmutallab was arraigned before a make shift court inside the hospital on Saturday.
