Former Pakistan president General (retied) Pervez Musharraf will be arrested and shifted to Landhi Jail upon his arrival at the Karachi airport, a provincial Minster has said.

Musharraf had earlier said that he would return to Pakistan this month, after spending three years outside the country in self-imposed exile.

Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan pointed out that Musharraf has been declared a proclaimed offender in the Benazir Bhutto and Akber Bugti murder cases and the trial courts had already issued Musharraf’s arrest warrants.

“Nobody is above the law... he (Musharraf) will have to face the cases as we faced in the past,” The Daily Times quoted Wassan, as saying.

He also said the Sindh government has granted permission to Musharraf’s party, All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) to hold a public meeting on January 8.

Meanwhile, sources told the Dawn that Musharraf has contacted army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani to discuss his potential return to the country.

Musharraf will meet former US secretary of state Colin Powel, British Prime Minister David Cameron, King Abdullah of Jordan and UAE authorities before arriving in Pakistan, the sources added.
