JERUSALEM: The mother and grandfatherof a four-year-old child, whose body was recovered in a suitcase from a river in Isreal, have been indicted on charges of murder by the State Prosecutor's office.
Police divers had recovered the body of Rose Pizem in a suitcase from the Yarkon river last week following leads provided by the grandfather, Ronny Ron, who is currently her mother's live-in-partner and father of two children from her.
The indictment filed at Ramla's Magistrate court does not mention themanner in which Rose was killed and comes despite prosecution's earlier claims that it will be difficult to prove Marie-Charlotte Renault's (the mother) involvement in the case.
The decision to indict the two was madejust hours before Rose's funeral today, which will be held in Paris at her father's request.
The gruesome incident had led to a nationwide public outcry.
"The defendants, both or one of them, placed Rose in the suitcase, after her death or shortly beforehand," said the indictment.
"Ron then took the case holding the child's body and dumped it in the river. The defendants' deliberate actions caused the child's death," it added.
The State also filed a motion to have the two remanded in custody till October end.
Ron had earlier confessed to killing the girl and throwing her body in the river, but had later retracted it saying that the police had coerced him into making the statement.
The woman had separated from her husband, with whom she lived in France, and moved to live in Israelafter falling in love with her father-in-law during a visit here.
