Mercator Lines Ltd said on Friday it has acquired a 1993-built tanker and has also deployed the vessel on contract.

The company had also acquired a vessel in December, it said, adding the cost of acquisition of both the vessels to about 830 million rupees, which were financed through a mix of debt and internal accruals. It did not give details of the contract.

The firm also said its Singapore unit, Mercator Lines (Singapore), has contracted to buy a dry bulk carrier for about 1.75 billion rupees.

The dry bulker is expected to join the fleet in April-May 2010, with an attached charter for 3 years worth 1.1 bilion rupees, the company said in a statement to the BSE.
