At least 49 people were killed today when a landslide caused by torrential monsoon rains hit a mountainous village in Pakistan's northwest.
The landslide hit Olandar village in Shangla district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, local residents said.
The province has been hit hardest by flash floods triggered by the unusually heavy rains over the past three days.
Rescuers retrieved 16 bodies from the rubble of the mud houses that collapsed. Local residents said that 33 bodies were still trapped under the debris.
Over 150 deaths have been reported in rain-related incidents in different parts of Pakistan, including Khyber-Paktunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The floods have also left thousands homeless and damaged crops.
Over 100 people have been killed and 800 houses damaged in Shangla district alone.
About 40km of roads, including a portion of the Silk Route passing through the district, have been damaged by the incessant rains.
