Three people have been detained in Switzerland on suspicion of plotting a bomb attack to target the Swiss unit of a major multinational firm, report said Monday.

Two Italians and a Swiss living in Italy were held April 15 during a police traffic control in the canton of Zurich, Xinhua reported quoting the official Swissinfo.ch news website.

Police found explosives and other items in their car that could have been used in an attack, the website quoted the federal prosecutor's office as saying.

The office said that no other details could be given for the time being as inquiries were on.

The office also declined to comment on a newspaper report which said the target of the planned attack was the IBM research center in Ruschlikon, near Zurich, the website said.
