ISLAMABAD: Several northern Pakistani cities were rocked late on Thursday by an aftershock from a powerful earthquake that caused massive devastation in early October, officials said.
The tremors measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale were felt simultaneously in Islamabad, Peshawar, Abbotabad, Mansehra and parts of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir at 8:38 pm (2108 IST), seismological department chief Qamaruz Zaman said.
There were no immediate reports casualties or damage.
He said the epicentre was about 120 kms northwest of Islamabad near Mansehra, in the same region where the October 8 quake killed more than 74,000 people in Pakistan and India.
"It was a mild intensity aftershock," Zaman said, adding that more than 1,300 aftershocks have rattled the region since the 7.6-magnitude quake hit northern Pakistan and Kashmir.
He said mild intensity aftershocks were expected to continue occasionally over two months.
