A two-year-old Chinese girl lived close to her dead grandmother for more than a week, but survived the ordeal after being rescued in the nick of time.
The baby girl who was not named was found by the neighbours on September 27 in Shuangfeng County of Loudi City in South-Central China after they noticed that a tap in the house was running continuously.
She was found lying in the arms of her dead grandmother Wang Lichun.
By the time the rescue arrived, the baby had spent more than a week with her dead grandmother and was running skin infections, festering wounds and was completely dehydrated.
Rushed to a hospital in Hunan's capital, Changsha, the doctors revived her and later said the baby's digestive system was returning to normal after having being without food for several days.
"It's a miracle that my baby survived," Xinhua quoted the girl's delighted father Xiao Kaiquan, who said he had been unable to contact his mother for more than a week.
The miracle baby is becoming cynosure of the town with countless visitors flocking to see her and showering her with gifts including cash and blessings.
