Eighteen Taliban militants were killed and several others injured in a roadside bomb blast and an artillery strike in the volatile Kurram tribal region in northwest Pakistan today, sources said.
A group of militants travelling in a vehicle was targeted with a roadside bomb on the Merandi road in central Kurram Agency, the sources said.
A dozen Taliban fighters were killed while many others were injured.
The Taliban were the targets of the bomb attack and the bomb was planted by anti-Taliban elements in the region, the sources said.
In a separate development, security forces shelled militant positions in Kurram Agency, killing six rebels and injuring 11 more.
Three hideouts were destroyed in the bombardment, officials said.
