Women scientists have hit back at sexist comments made by British Nobel laureate Tim Hunt earlier this week, by posting pictures of themselves at work, along with the hashtag #distractinglysexy on Twitter.
72-year-old Hunt, who won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2001, reportedly told a delegates at a conference in Seoul, South Korea, on Monday: "Let me tell you about my trouble with girls. Three things happen when they are in the lab: you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you and when you criticise them, they cry."
The comments led to him resigning from his position as Honorary Professor with the UCL Faculty of Life Sciences, even as he later apologised, saying he was being honest and had meant his comments to be light-hearted.
However, women scientists were far from amused at his comments saying that women scientists should work in segregated laboratories and have responded with pictures of themselves and famous women scientists that speak for themselves about their vital role at the workplace.
