Bethany Lynn Stephens had been missing for two days ever since she left to walk her dogs. Stephens' father called the cops and reported that his daughter was missing.

He later went out looking for her and only found her dogs  guarding ia wooded area about half a mile away from the main road in Richmond.  That's when the horrible truth dawned upon him that his daughter might have been mauled to death by her own pets.

According to the investigators, the two dogs had mauled the owner to death in the woods. Stephens who was 5-foot-1 inch tall woman and weighed over 100 pounds was found dead. She had defensive wounds on her hands and arms that clearly indicate she was attacked. Stephens was first attacked on her face and throat. She had puncture wounds in the skull but there were no marks of strangulation.

“It appears she was taken to the ground, lost consciousness and the dogs mauled her to death,” Goochland County Sheriff Jim Agnew said.

However, Bethany's friend Barbara Norris, strongly disagreed with the authorities' account of her death.

“They’d kill you with kisses,” Norris told NBC, adding that the dogs’ kennels looked as though they had been forced open. She suggested that something may have happened to Stephens after walking the dogs, and the dogs then forced themselves out to help her.

Agnew, when asked about Norris’s comments, said the evidence found at the scene, including the defensive wounds, clearly showed that the dogs were responsible for Stephens’ death.

Agnew told reporters at a news conference on Friday said that 'In my 40 years of law enforcement, I've never seen anything quite like it. Hope I'd never see anything like it again'

Stephen's family have asked for the dogs to be euthanised.
