Woman dies after airport scanner interferes with her pacemaker in Russia

A 30-year-old woman named Diana Tolstova fitted with a pacemaker, collapsed after passing through the metal detector at Ulan-Ude Airport, in the Republic of Buryatia, in southern Russia.

The Telegraph reported that Tolstova fell in her husband Maxim's arms minutes after passing through the airport scanner which caused a malfunction on her pacemaker.

Airport scanners adversely affect heart devices. Maxim told Central European News Agency, that despite providing the necessary paper work due to his wife's special circumstance she passed through the detectors anyway. Disraught, Maxim doesn't understand why.

When doctors arrived at the hospital, it didn't take long to declare Tolstova dead. Airport officials are currently investigating the incident.
