The White House is considering revealing the secret sections of an official report into the 9/11 terrorist attack that refer to possible Saudi Arabian support to al Qaeda following the statement of a former operative of the militant group that said that major Saudi figures funded the group.

According to the Independent, the questions over the report were raised this week after former al-Qaeda operative Zacarias Moussaoui's disposition.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that the country's intelligence started reevaluating in 2014 if it should classify the section after a request from Congress. Earnest said that Saudi Arabia and the US have a strong counterterrorism relationship as a key element of their broad and strategic partnership.

Moussaoui said that some "extremely famous" Saudi officials were among the people who had funded the group.
