The whole Ashley Madison debacle has unravelled a lot of interesting information about men who engage in the website established to promote extra-marital affairs. The hack of the website has revealed almost unbelievable data of users from all the corners of the world like the states and universities they come from.

In an intriguing recent update, a data analysis has also revealed that most of the women users on the website were actually not women.

An analysis of the site's user database by Gizmodo writer Annalee Newlitz revealed a lot of suspicious activities suggesting that almost all the female accounts were fake and were actually run and maintained by the company's employees.

The information disclosed by the hackers of Ashley Madison said that around 31 million accounts belonged to male users and around 5 million accounts belonged to women. However, the analysis by Newlitz found out that a lot of test accounts ended with ashleymadison.com. This suggested that the accounts of almost 90% of women were internally created and around 350 female accounts had the same name with quite unusual last names.

Commenting on the revelation, Newlitz said, "Ashley Madison is a site where tens of millions of men write mail, chat, and spend money for women who aren't there."

Annalee Newlitz also revealed three pieces of data that supported the claim that includes: Only 1,492 of the women in the database had ever checked their messages on the site. That's compared with more than 20 million men; Only 2,409 of the women had ever used the site's chat function, versus more than 11 million men; Only 9,700 women had ever responded to a message from another person on the site, versus almost 6 million men.

Although this data could also suggest that most women created the accounts but never acted on it.
