A video originally published by The Times shows Libyan coast guards whipping and beating refugees they rescued.

In the video, armed men in military fatigue are seen whipping the refugees they rescued from the Mediterranean near Sabratha, The Times reported.

Women and children can be seen cowering in the boats as the assault takes place.

In October, German human rights group Sea Watch had accused the Libyan coast guard of attacking one of its ships during a rescue mission.

According to The Times, the video was filmed in September 2016 and highlight the brutality of the coast guard that the European Union has been training since October 2016 in order to curb the flow of refugees to Europe.
