US NSA arrives in Pakistan

A statement from the US embassy in Islamabad said McMaster expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s democratic and economic development.

HR McMaster, US National Security Advisor, currently visiting South Asia on Monday stressed on Pakistan’s top civilian and military leaders of the “need to confront terrorism in all its forms”. The top Trump Administration official arrived in Islamabad from Afghanistan and is scheduled make a stop in New Delhi, before flying to Washington.

While in Kabul, he appeared to take a “tougher line” on Pakistan, he seemed more diplomatic and measured with his words while in Islamabad. A statement from the US embassy in Islamabad said McMaster expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s democratic and economic development. A statement from Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s office said both sides discussed forging a strong and mutually beneficial partnership and also ways to “promote peace and security in the region and beyond”. 

Sharif also referred to his commitment to a peaceful neighbourhood and “reiterated his firm conviction on sustained dialogue and meaningful engagement as the only way forward was to resolve outstanding issues between India and Pakistan, including the Kashmir dispute”.
