The United States government has announced plans to counteract IS' propaganda on social media wherein the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications will manage Twitter accounts across the government and also coordinate with Muslim academics, scholars, and community leaders who oppose IS to leave a stronger impact on the militant group.

According to the Verge, the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications was created in 2011 to coordinate such communications. A new group, called the Information Coordination Cell will be tasked with the efforts in the new operation on the social media.

The plan is expected to be detailed this week at a broad level. The Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications will coordinate with the Twitter accounts of embassies, consulates, and individuals as well as accounts from Homeland Security, the Pentagon, and international allies.
