Marking her first solo public appearance as US First Lady, Melania Trump visited the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Palm Beach, Florida, with the wife of Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Akie Abe.

While Donald Trump and Shinzo enjoyed a game of golf at the Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, the two first ladies toured the museum in Delray Beach which has six Japanese inspired gardens.

In a statement to CNN, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, senior adviser to Melania said: "The First Lady has a deep personal commitment to her role as caretaker and nurturer, beginning with her family. She believes there is a connection between a child's mind and places of calm and beauty to be used as a tool for us all."

Melania shared a picture of them on Twitter:

"Both our countries histories and cultures are steeped in the nurture and nature of gardening. Having knowledge of different cultures and customs is a wonderful way to learn and to explore. Gardening teaches us the fundamentals in care and the evolution of living things, all while inspiring us to nurture our minds and to relax and strengthen our bodies. I hope that together Mrs. Abe and I can continue to inspire our youth to enjoy the beauty around them and to restore their minds in the peacefulness of their surroundings," Melania said in the statement according to CNN.

The statement further adds the new FLOTUS is "committed to the preservation and continuation of the White House Gardens", the Rose Garden and former First Lady Michelle Obama's vegetable garden.

Morikami's Bonnie White LeMay and Tamara Joy guided and described the sights they explored, according to CNN. In a special treat, Melania showed Akie the church Trump and she were married in and where they pray.

CNN also reported that Melania gifted Abe a porcelain rose known as the "Rose in Bloom" from artist Vladimir Kanevsky. For the occasion, Vogue reveals Melania wore a white Calvin Klein dress and beige flats from Christian Louboutin.

The ladies reportedly also had a private lunch later at Mar-a-Lago.
