Global warming is “severe, widespread and irreversible” damage may be inevitable, unless faster action is taken to reduce fossil fuel emissions, warns a new leaked report by the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) according to the Associated Press on Tuesday.

“Continued emission of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and long- lasting changes in all components of the climate system, increasing the likelihood of severe, pervasive and irreversible impacts for people,” the report states.

The report further explains, that without changes in greenhouse gas emissions, “climate change risks are likely to be high or very high by the end of the 21st century.” While the matter of greenhouse gas emissions may seem to be too daunting a task to take on, the report is a wakeup call for all human beings to take responsibility for the well-being of our planet .

In order to move forward towards a problem that affects us globally, we need to make a change in our attitude. The choices we make today, determine the result of lower production of greenhouse gases. The things we do in our day-to-day life effects the planet and we can make a huge difference while making small changes. There are a few things we can do in our home that will help make a difference in the long run.

Every day tips for a better planet

Reduce Solid Waste

Reducing the use of solid waste which is solid, discarded material, including what fills your trash bag, is an active way to reduce gas emissions. Consider repairing an item before disposing it or an alternative is recycling or donating it to a charity.

Plant trees

Trees absorb and store carbon dioxide while releasing oxygen into the air. Planting trees around your home can help reduce your dependency on electric or gas heating and cooling units, which ultimately leads to lower amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Take Simpler Steps

Something as simple as, turning off a light switch, unplugging your computer and phone charger when you don’t need them are small steps that can help. Using public transportation instead of driving once in a while is another small step that can help our planet desperate call for action.
