Turkey's incoming prime minister on Sunday vowed to continue the fight against Islamic State and Kurdish militants at home and in Syria, saying the change in government leadership would not alter the struggle against terror groups.

Transport Minister Binali Yildirim, a close ally of President Tayyip Erdogan, is set to be elected as the next leader of the ruling AK Party at a special congress on Sunday. Yildirim, the sole candidate at the congress, will therefore become premier, replacing Ahmet Davutoglu who stepped down this month after weeks of public tension with Erdogan.

Yildirim also said in a speech at the congress in Ankara that the AKP will continue to work together following the change in leadership.
