Foreign fighters seeking to join Islamic State (IS) terror group are using fake Syrian passports to enter the country through Turkish border checkpoints.
Turkish authorities have banned people from using official crossing excluding Syrian citizens, reported Sky News.
However, fake documents can be easily purchased within hours by smugglers operating in the area. The fake passports can be made with any name and carry any photo that the buyer wishes to use.
The immediate availability of such documents is making it extremely difficult for Turkish authorities to identify the true nationality of the people entering Syria. The area has become a strategic route for IS militants for smuggling as it is only 60 miles away from the IS' capital Raqqa.
