Continuing his assault on a section of the U.S. media, this time over his drop in approval ratings, President Trump claimed that "fake" media outlets are responsible for the low level of his support by Americans.

On Sunday, several US media outlets, such as Washington Post and the ABC broadcaster, published surveys showing that majority of the US citizens do not approve Trump's governance as president, reports Sputnik.

Forty-two percent of people in an ABC/Washington Post poll said they approved of Trump's performance so far, while 53% said they disapproved. An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll had 40% of respondents saying they approved of Trump and 54% saying they disapproved.

However, despite Trump's low approval numbers, the poll showed him retaining support among his base, with 96% of people who said they voted for him saying they would do so again.

In the actual 2016 election, Trump won the electoral college but lost the popular vote to Clinton by nearly 3 million votes, or about two percentage points.

With less than a week until Trump hits the 100-day mark in office, all eyes are on the sweeping package of legislation promised in his election campaign, that are yet to be passed.
