US President Donald Trump Wednesday slammed the opposition Democratic party for taking the political advantage of sexual assault allegations against his Supreme Court nominee, stating that Judge Brett Kavanaugh does not "deserve this".

A woman had accused the judge of sexually assaulting her when they were in high school. Judge Kavanaugh has denied the allegations, which surfaced on Sunday, and said he was ready to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. "I feel so badly for him that he's going through this, to be honest with you. I feel so badly for him. This is not a man that deserves this. This should have been brought to the fore. It should have been brought up long ago.

And that's what you have hearings for. You don't wait until the hearing is over and then, all of a sudden, bring it up," Trump told reporters at a joint news conference with the visiting Polish President Andrzej Duda at the White House.
About a question whether he would support the FBI opening its investigation into the Judge Kavanaugh issue, Trump said he wants the matter to be resolved quickly. "It wouldn't bother me, other than the FBI said that they really don't do that; that's not what they do. Now, they have done, supposedly, six background checks over the years, as Judge Kavanaugh has gone beautifully up a ladder. He's an incredible individual. Great intellect, great judge. Impeccable history in every way," he said.

The Democrats, Trump said, were "lousy" on policy, and in many ways, "lousy" politicians. "They're very good on obstruction. And it's shame, because this is a great gentleman," he said.
