United States President Donald Trump is likely to ask for America?s trust in his major national security address to the nation on Monday evening (Local Time) on his plans for Afghanistan and South Asia.

According to CNN, ?Exercising a President?s most somber duty, a decision on waging war, at a time when his own political standing is deeply compromised, Trump will ask for America?s faith in him for his new Afghan strategy.?

Trump will make his first prime-time broadcast on a specific policy issue to the nation at 9 p.m. ET from Fort Myer, in Arlington, Virginia, to unveil his new plan, and a potential escalation of the nation's longest war.

Earlier on Sunday (local time) the United States Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, confirmed that a decision has been made on a military strategy in Afghanistan and US President Donald Trump will announce the details of a review of U.S. policy in Afghanistan and South Asia.

"I am very comfortable that the strategic process was sufficiently rigorous and did not go in with a preset position. The President has made a decision. As he said, he wants to be the one to announce it to the American people," the Washington Post quoted Mattis as saying.

Trump is likely to announce the additional deployment of 4,000 US troops in Afghanistan.

Earlier, President Trump had termed Afghanistan issue as `a mess` which he took over from the previous administration and said his administration is getting close to a decision on an updated strategy for the war in Afghanistan.
