U.S. President Donald Trump called on Venezuela on Wednesday night to release opposition leader and political prisoner Leopoldo Lopez ?immediately?.

Trump shared a photo of himself with Lopez?s wife, Lilian Tintori, on Twitter and tweeted, ?Venezuela should allow Leopoldo Lopez, a political prisoner and husband of @liliantintori (just met w/ @marcorubio) out of prison immediately.?

Lopez is the founder and National Coordinator of Voluntad Popular (Popular Will), a social movement and political party composed of thousands of activists and community, labor and youth leaders from all regions of Venezuela.

Lopez, a 45-year-old U.S.-educated economist and opposition leader, was accused of inciting violence at anti-government protests in 2014 and is serving a 14-year prison sentence.
