NEW YORK: An American transgender man, Thomas Beatie, who gave birth to a daughter earlier this year, is pregnant with his second child.
The 34-year-old Thomas, who was known as Tracy when a girl, told ABC News that he is pregnant again with his second child.
The network showed his pictures to buttress its report.
Thomas said he did not go back on the male hormone testosterone after the birth of his daughter because he and his wife Nancy wanted another child.
"I feel good. I had my checkups with my hormone level, and everything is right on track," he said.
The baby is due June 12, he added.
In the spring, Thomas Beatie has written an article in the national gay magazine The Advocate, revealing that he was legally male and that he was pregnant.
Thomas has had a "sex reassignment surgery" in 2002.
He also released a photo showing his bearded face and pregnant belly to substantiate his claim.
The news -- and the controversial photo -- ignited a media frenzy and provoked questions about traditional notions about sex and gender.
"Hiding a pregnant man is like hiding an 800-pound gorilla," he told ABC News of his decision to go public. "Nancy and I wanted to tell our story from our own mouths before it got out."
Thomas said he was surprised at how quickly the news of the "pregnant man" spread.
