Ahead of the arrest of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam after their arrival in Pakistan in a graft case, an emotional picture of Sharif with his ailing wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz has gone viral on social media.

Mayam took to Twitter to post pictures of the scenes in London before their departure. In one picture retweeted by Maryam, the father and daughter are seen bidding a teary farewell to Kulsoom Nawaz.

The former premier’s wife, being treated at the Harley Street Clinic, had been in a comatic state for over a month.

"Poignant scene at the London clinic where Nawaz Sharif and daughter Mariam say goodbye to comatose Kulsoom Nawaz. Wish them strength and peace. Whatever his faults MNS has come a long way from being GenZia's protege," tweeted Beena Sarwar along with a picture.

“This picture will haunt many in the future,” said a Twitter user.

Another user said that this picture will be marked as the ugliest face of Pakistani Establishment for a hundred years.

According to ANI, Kulsoom Nawaz opened her eyes after a month-long coma. "She (Kulsoom) has opened her eyes after exactly one month. I don't have anything else to share. Her sedatives were being reduced. My only request is, please remember her in your prayers," Kulsoom's son, Hussain Nawaz.

In an emotional appeal, Hussain requested people to remember his mother in their prayers.

Sharif, who was in London with his wife and children when the verdict was announced, said he is returning to Pakistan from London to fulfil his pledge to " honour the vote".

Sitting on an airplane that will fly him home to face jail, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday gave an emotional speech saying he is 'sacrificing' for his love for Pakistan.

On July 6, Nawaz was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, and a fine of eight million pounds was slapped on him in the Avenfield Reference case.

The case pertains to the purchase of Avenfield apartments through offshore companies, the beneficial owner of which was Maryam.

Maryam was sentenced to seven years of jail and fined two million pounds by the Accountability Court.

Earlier in April, Pakistan's Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz from contesting elections for the rest of his life because of his corruption cases as revealed in the Panama Papers.
