Age is just a number. It sure is, for this 93-year-old World War II veteran who was sworn in this week as the new Mayor of New Jersey shore town in US.

Vito Perillo, a US Navy veteran, last year won everyone's heart when he went door-to-door campaigning, wearing two pair of shoes for the New Jersey's mayoral race in November. In his first try for public office, Perillo defeated incumbent Tinton Falls Mayor Gerald M Turning to win the election.

Perillo, who never imagined he'd win the election, decided to run for the election after several whistleblower lawsuits involving the police department that cost the borough around $1.1 million in settlements.

Turning served as the borough police chief from 2004 to 2011 and was later appointed as the borough administrator from 2010 to 2014.
