With the Ice Bucket Challenge aimed at raising awareness about the ALS disease having gone viral, several other versions have cropped up in an attempt to draw attention to local causes. People sympathetic to the Palestinian cause have now responded with the Rubble Bucket Challenge.

In a video posted on August 23, Ayman-al-Aloul a reporter from Gaza emptied a bucket of rubble over his head and talked about the plight of the people living in Gaza. Since water is not a resource they can afford to waste, he makes use of the debris from the houses that have been bombed, as an extension of the Ice Bucket Challenge.

In the video, Aloul points at the devastation in the background and says, "The challenge is not addressed to anyone in particular, but to all the people who sympathise with the Palestinians. We do not ask for material help. Anyone who wants to help Gaza can invent his idea."

A few supporters also plan to take the #RubbleBucketChallenge to the streets of America with an event on August 28 in the Lafayette Park side of the White House. The event description on a social media page states: Water is scarce in Gaza these days, but they have plenty of rubble. So they have asked us to show our solidarity with them (as many of us have for those with ALS) by dumping a bucket, or bowl or cup of dirt/sand over our heads, tape it and post it to their FB page. Yeah, we know. Dirt is DIRTY. But the people in Gaza can't take a shower for days, and are picking through rubble to find their possessions. So don't whine!
