Serbia recalled its embassy staff from Macedonia for consultations, after receiving intelligence that there had been "offensive actions" against its institutions, President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday.

"There is a lot of speculation right now. I think everything will be a lot clearer within the next 10 days," Vucic told reporters near Belgrade, adding that some of the embassy staff would be replaced.

Macedonian media linked Serbia's move to reports that Macedonia intends to press for Kosovo membership in the U.N. cultural heritage body, UNESCO.

Macedonia is one of 114 countries, including 23 EU members, which recognise Kosovo whose UN membership is being blocked by Serbia's allies, Russia and China.
