Commenting on the decision of the Scottish people to remain in the United Kingdom , British economist Lord Meghnad Desai on Friday said that margin of votes between 'yes' and 'no' to Scottish independence leaves no doubt that the majority of Scotland wants to stay in the union which is beneficial to the United Kingdom.

Desai, who is in Bihar to attend the inauguration ceremony of Nalanda University by Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, said, "The decision has been very straightforward one with a margin of ten percentage points, 55 percent to 45 percent. That is pretty decisive, it leaves no doubt that the majority of Scotland wants to stay in the union which is beneficial to United Kingdom."

"Scotland has rejected the independence and have decided to stay in the United Kingdom. It is a very good thing that the Scotland has decided to stay within the union," Desai added.

Earlier, Scotland rejected independence from the United Kingdom as 55.3 percent of the voters chose to vote "no", while pro-independence side was pegged at only 44.7 percent.
