Four people were feared dead after a private jet crashed today at a car auction site while trying to land at an airport in Hampshire.

The light aircraft, which crashed during an attempt to land at Blackbushe Airport, burst into flames on impact, witnesses said.

Four people are believed to have been on board at the time, including the pilot, but the number of injured is yet to be confirmed.

British Car Auctions in Farnham said its Yateley warehouse was evacuated.

In a statement, the airport said the Phenom 300 Jet crashed near the end of the runway while attempting to make a landing.

Hampshire Police said officers were called to the scene and the nearby highway had been closed both ways between Cricket Hill Lane and Blackbushes Road, but has since reopened. However, police have warned people to avoid the area.

The UK's Air Accidents Investigation Branch said it was aware and making inquiries.
