Out of hundreds of photos that were taken during the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada, this particular picture of German Chancellor Angela Merkel stood out after it surfaced on social media on Saturday.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who was in Canada to attend the G7 summit, shared three pictures from the trip on her Instagram account. One picture, in particular, caught everyone's attention.

Before it was uploaded on Merkel's photo sharing social media profile, the picture had already been shared by millions. As the German Chancellor herself uploaded the iconic picture on her account, many commented that it was a statement being made by the European leader.

In the caption accompanying the picture, Merkel said it was a spontaneous meeting between two working sessions.

"Day two of the G7 summit in Canada: spontaneous meeting between two working sessions. #G7Charlevoix," the caption read.

While the picture clearly cannot establish if the G7 leaders were confronting the US President on anything, social media users let their imagination run wild and speculated about what was possibly the meaning of the meeting.

The two-day summit began on Friday with leaders of Germany, France, Japan, Canada, Britain and Italy bringing trade into discussion repeatedly.

The summit which came in the backdrop of Trump's spree of imposing tariffs, ended on a shaky note with Trump even refusing to endorse the joint communique. Trump, who last week slapped tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, the European Union and Mexico,  used the platform to "rant" on unfair trade policies of US allies. Trump's actions have left the once united Group of Seven deeply divided.

The US president left the summit early but not before threatening to cut off trade with countries that treated the United States unfairly.

"We're like the piggy bank that everybody is robbing," he said at a press conference.
