The Pentagon is reportedly probing a threat made by the Islamic State (IS) against 100 of its military personnel.

A website linked to the terror group had recently published a list of names and addresses of personnel who had participated in the US campaigns against IS and urged its supporters to "take the final step" and "deal with" those named, reported the BBC.

The group, which called itself the Islamic State Hacking Division, claimed that it had obtained the information by hacking into servers and databases but US officials said that most of the data was in the public domain.

A US defence official said that the validity of the information has not been ascertained and added that they were looking into it. A spokesman for the US Navy's law enforcement agency said that the personnel named by the IS on the list have been asked to check their online footprint and adjust their privacy settings.
