The Pakistani parliamentary committee is finally set to take up the Hindu marriage bills on Monday. The National Assembly Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights will review a private member bill, namely the Hindu Marriage Act 2014.

The committee, tabled by Law Minister Pervaiz Rashid in March, is now headed by Chaudhry Muhammad Bashir Virk. It was jointly moved last year by Ramesh Lal of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Dr Darshan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Currently, Hindu Pakistanis do not even have a legal document as proof of marriage in the country.

The two bills will establish rules and regulation for registration of marriage and divorce for Hindu Pakistanis.
