Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, on a visit to Pakistan, called for a political solution to the Yemeni crisis on Wednesday.

Zarif made the remarks at a joint press conference with Pakistan`s top foreign affairs advisor Sartaj Aziz in Pakistan`s capital Islamabad after their official talks that focused on the crisis in the Middle East.

"I think it's important for all of us to reach the understanding that war will not resolve the problem," said Zarif. "And I believe it's very practical, have a cease-fire, stop aerial bombardment, stop operation on the ground, allow humanitarian assistance, start intra-Yemeni dialogue and everybody should facilitate that dialogue and reach a political solution."

On his part, Aziz said that Pakistan and Iran had agreed to work for a peaceful solution to the Yemen crisis.

Aziz added that the Pakistani Parliament had continued for the third day the joint session of its two houses to decide on whether to join the Saudi Arabia-led coalition against the rebel Houthi in Yemen, noting that most of the parliament members oppose the country's military involvement in Yemen.

"We are obviously very seriously concerned about the situation in Yemen. We agree that all stake holders should show great flexibility for ending the bloodshed and preparing the ground for serious negotiation to resolve the crisis," said the advisor.

"Ceasefire and all will not do, but a more comprehensive solution on facilitating an intra-Yemeni dialogue to create the possibility of some kind of a negotiated solution," Aziz added.

Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif is scheduled to meet Pakistan`s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday.
