Egyptian woman Eman Ahmed was flown to Mumbai in February for treatment and then she was shifted to Abu Dhabi
Once known as the world's heaviest woman, Egyptian woman Eman Ahmed passed away in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Authority from Abu Dhabi-based Burjeel Hospital confirmed the news stating that numerous co-morbid conditions including heart diseases and kidney dysfunction resulted to her death.
"Eman Abdul Atti, once known as the 'world's heaviest woman' passed away on Monday, 25 September 2017 at 04:35 am due to complications from the underlying comorbid conditions including heart disease and kidney dysfunction according to medical experts," said Burjeel Hospital in a statement.
Eman was under the supervision of a medical team of over 20 doctors from different specialties, who were managing her medical condition from the time she arrived in the UAE. She was admitted to an Abu Dhabi hospital in May to undergo long-term physical and psychological rehabilitation after a drastic weight-loss operation in India.
"Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to her family," said the hospital.
Ahmed, 37, weighed about 500 kg when she went for surgery in Mumbai in February, but had shed an astonishing 323 kg since undergoing a series of medical procedures.
She was flown to Mumbai on February 10 in a specialised logistical operation. On March 7, she underwent bariatric surgery at the city’s Saifee Hospital. She was put on a special liquid diet to reduce her weight enough so that doctors could perform bariatric surgery.
However, Ahmed’s sister Shaimaa, on social media, alleged that Ahmed was not receiving proper treatment at the privately-owned hospital in Mumbai.
She alleged that the doctors at Saifee, made 'false claims' about Ahmed’s recovery and weight loss.
