After filing a cheating case against a city school, where a nursery student was sexually assaulted, police on Friday arrested a functionary of a trust running it in connection with charges of violation of norms.
Meanwhile, there was no breakthrough so far about the culprit even as probe continued into the offence against the child.

General Secretary of the trust KRK Reddy was arrested and questioned in connection with the cheating case filed against the "Orchids, The International School" where the three-and-half-year old girl was sexually assaulted three days ago, Joint Commissioner (Crime) Hemant Nimbalkar said.

Cases under various IPC sections including 420 (cheating) besides RTE Act were filed last night against the school on a complaint from Deputy Director of Public Instructions HB Manjunath after it was found allegedly functioning illegally, flouting the rules and law and cheating public, he said.

He, however, said no arrest has been made in connection with the sexual assault and the investigation was continuing in this regard.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also said "...investigation is going on. We are doing it seriously."

"I have told the police and the education department to initiate action against the management of the institution," he told reporters earlier.

The incident, the third such in the last four months in the city, triggered protests from outraged parents.

A criminal case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and IPC section 376 (rape) on a complaint from the child's father.

After the violation of norms came to light, the school has been booked under section 18 (5) of the RTE Act which stipulates that if a school operates without a certificate of recognition, it shall cease to function.

Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) Alok Kumar said no arrest or detention has been made so far in the case.

School staff members were being questioned and CCTV footage was being examined by police, he said.

According to police, besides Reddy, three other office bearers of the Sri Gowtham Academy of General & Technical Education Society, which runs the school at Jalahalli, have been booked under the RTE Act and IPC sections.

They have been charged with "flouting the rules, violating law, illegally running a CBSE English Medium School & having cheated the public, parents & particularly more than 900 children without any recognition either from the state or from the Central Government."

As per the complainant, it was found during inspection that the society had secured permission on March 25, 2013 from the state government to run primary school from Class 1 to 5 in Kannada medium but in reality found running Classes from pre-nursery to 7th standard CBSE English Medium in gross violation and abuse of law.

The authorities had collected huge money on false promise claiming that it was a recognised school.

Three cases of sexual assault on minor girls in schools have occurred in the last four months in Bangalore.

In the latest incident, the girl was crying when her mother picked her up from school on October 22 and she was not behaving normal and had symptoms of fever.

While the girl initially told her mother that someone beat her up, she later said she was sexually assaulted.

An eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her 63-year-old teacher inside her school premises over a period of time, with the offence coming to the fore in early August, barely a month after the rape of a six-year-old girl at 'Vibgyor High' school here which led to street protests.
