Now, Pakistan court sentences Christian couple to death for blasphemy

A Christian couple in Pakistan has been reportedly sentenced to death on account of blasphemy.

The court also slapped a fine of 100,000 rupees on the couple.

According to the Dawn, Shafqat Maseeh, watchman of Gojra's Saint Cathedral School, and his wife Shagufta Maseeh were arrested on July 25 last year under Section 295C on the charge of sending blasphemous text messages to the complainants, shopkeeper Malik Mohammad Hussain and Gojra tehsil bar's former president Anwar Mansoor Goraya.

During the case that was heard in the district jail, the couple reportedly confessed sending the messages.

The verdict was announced by additional district and sessions judge Amer Habib, the report added.
