A new study has found that having coffee before hitting the gym enhances physical performance and makes legs stronger.

The study examined young adults, who consumed two and three cups of coffee and then cycled using their legs and arms, and found that caffeine improved leg muscle performance but had no effect on arms. It also decreased sensations of pain in both legs and arms when the exercise was at a moderate intensity level, health portal Commonhealth.wbur reported.

Lead author and assistant professor Christopher Black at the University of Oklahoma said that there's no such risk of caffeine for people with certain heart conditions, as according to their study there was only a bit of heart rate increase in people who consumed caffeine before exercise.

The study is published in the journal Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise.
