Morocco is planning to use its "untapped desserts" in the city of Ouarzazate which is said to harbour huge potential for a great source of energy.
Morocco has set its gold to become a global solar superpower with the set up of a complex comprising of four linked solar mega-plants that will supply almost half od Morocco's electricity from renewables by 2020. The country also hopes to spare some remaining energy for Europe.
Morocco is planning to use its "untapped desserts" in the city of Ouarzazate which is said to harbour huge potential for a great source of energy.
Talking about the potential for solar power from the desert, German particle physicist Gerhard Knies after the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986 had said that the world’s deserts receive almost enough energy within a few hours to
provide for humanity’s power needs for a whole year, The Guardian said.
The engineers of the solar mega plant are putting finishing touched to 500,000 crescent-shaped solar mirrors across the desert line with around 800 rows which follow the sun.
The power plant called Noor 1 has a generating capacity of almost 160MW.
