United States President Donald Trump is scheduled to welcome Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to the White House, next month.

The meeting between the two leaders will focus on ways to strengthen and broaden the bilateral ties and expand regional cooperation.

The White House statement read, ?President Trump looks forward to celebrating the 60th anniversary of United States-Malaysia bilateral relations and discussing ways to strengthen and broaden our bilateral relationship and expand regional cooperation with one of America?s closest partners in Southeast Asia.?

Razak has an autographed photo with Trump in which the future president calls Razak his "favorite" prime minister, reported the Hill, quoting the Malaysian newspaper.

Razak is currently embroiled in a major scandal with thousands calling for his resignation in Malaysia. Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets in November after Razak was accused of stealing millions of dollars from a national wealth fund.

Former President Barack Obama, in 2014 became the first U.S. president to visit the country in 50 years.
