Kanye West is one of the most controversial rappers of our generation. He has always said he doesn’t think before he speaks and he doesn’t feel the need to. One of the most controversial things he said was during a political rant at his short-lived “Saint Pablo” tour in Sacramento, California last November. On stage, he told fans he did not cast a ballot on Election Day, but said that if he had, he would have voted for Donald Trump, which was the first time he officially declared his support for the current POTUS.

Less than a month later, Kanye met Trump in New York City at Trump Tower. This was just a few days before his breakdown and hospitalisation. This meeting sparked controversy and backlash from fans and friends of West, including singer John legend, who asked West to defend his actions in the since-deleted tweets.

Kanye, along with facing serious hate on social media, also had a very public nervous breakdown during this time and was then hospitalised, and said to be undergoing therapy with a psychiatrist. He canceled the rest of his tour in mid-November as well.

Kanye seemed to have met with Trump to discuss ‘multicultural’ issues, including ‘bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago’. The 21-time Grammy winner has already expressed his interest in politics by announcing his campaign to run for President in 2020. On December 13, 2016 he said, “I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future president if we truly want to change.” A day later, West tweeted a picture of a signed copy of Time magazine’s 2016 “Person of the Year” issue, which featured Trump himself. He wrote “To Kanye. You are a great friend. Thanks.”

However, on Monday, February 6, it was seen that somewhere between the February 5 and February 6, West deleted all his pro-Trump tweets from his account because he was ‘super unhappy with the president’s performance over his first two weeks in office.’

TMZ reported that the commander in chief’s controversial immigration ban, where he has banned seven majority Muslim countries from obtaining US visas, was the trigger to West’s actions on social media. Kanye has stated that he is ‘done with Donald Trump’ — looks like he isn’t a fan anymore.
