Hollywood actor John Travolta unveiled the first Qantas 70s-themed ochre livery featuring the flying kangaroo logo on the tail.

Standing under a mirror ball in the hangar, the 60-year-old actor, who's Qantas' ambassador, joked that he didn't know whether to do an "Aboriginal dance or a disco dance", Stuff.co.nz reported.

The new Boeing 737 aircraft in Seattle (US), which was part of a campaign to restore brand loyalty post their 2 billion dollars cost-saving program, was unveiled to Elton John's Rocket Man, and will depart to fly on Australian domestic routes on Monday.

Qantas chief financial officer said that they wanted to create a feeling of nostalgia for Australians who had travelled on the airline in the 1970s and 1980s, adding that though they had emerged from a unstable period as a more sustainable business, there is still a long way to go.
