John Kerry's Peshawar trip to meet school carnage victims cancelled

US Secretary of State John Kerry's visit to Peshawar to meet survivors of the carnage by the Taliban that claimed 150 lives, mostly of school children, was cancelled on Tuesday due to bad weather.

"Kerry had hoped to make a brief trip to Peshawar to visit survivors of the school massacre recovering in a hospital there but weather concerns forced him to cancel," a senior State Department official said. Kerry, during his Pakistan visit, made a strong case for more robust efforts against all extremist groups in the country, particularly after the Peshawar school massacre that killed 150 people, most of them children.

Kerry, who travelled to Pakistan from India, said all militant groups should be targeted to bring security to the region. The US Secretary of State also announced that US$ 250 million in previously appropriated money will be given to emergency relief efforts in the tribal areas, mainly North Waziristan.
