Celebrities took to Twitter to express their support, after Ireland became the first country to nationally vote to legalise same-sex marriage, thanks to 62% of voters in the historic referendum who were in favour of it.

On Saturday the official results were announced at a Dublin Castle press conference. 1,201,607 voted in favour, while 7,34,300 voted against it, said elections official Ríona Ní Fhlanghaile. While 18 countries have already legalised gay marriage, Ireland is the first to do so by a nationwide referendum.
