A Palestinian assailant on Wednesday rammed his car into a West Bank bus stop, wounding an Israeli man, before Israeli troops shot and killed the driver, the military said.

The incident occurred at the Gush Etzion Junction, a busy intersection south of Jerusalem that has been the site of multiple attacks over the past year and a half.

Israel's national rescue service said the 60-year-old Israeli man suffered a head injury and was taken to a Jerusalem hospital.

No other details about the attacker were immediately available.

Since September 2015, Palestinians have killed 42 Israelis, 2 visiting Americans and a British tourist in a wave of stabbing, shooting and car-ramming attacks.

In that same time, Israeli forces killed at least 244 Palestinians, most of them identified as attackers by Israeli authorities. The rest died in clashes with Israeli troops.

Israel says the violence is fueled by Palestinian incitement. Palestinians say it stems from anger over 50 years of occupation.
