Indian student attacked in Poland, Sushma Swaraj‏ demands report

An Indian student in Poland was beaten up at the the Market Jeżyckim in Poznan on Wednesday, wyborcza.pl reported.

The student was bleeding heavily, received a cut on his head and suffered injuries to his hands. According to the report, the student said that the perpetrator shouted something at him, which he did not understand, before he ran away after beating him.

Witnesses describe the perpetrator as slightly chubby, carrying a blue backpack and red bag. The reason for the crime is not yet known.

While the identity of the student has not been disclosed,  External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj‏ revealed on Twitter that he has survived.

 Swaraj‏ has also spoken to the Indian Ambassador in Poland and has asked for a report on the incident.

Indian ambassador to Poland Ajay Bisaria tweeted, "Prelim enquiry suggests student attacked in Poznan tram on Wed. Thank God, he survived. Getting details." 

Wyborcza.pl  reports that this is not the first time a foreigner in Poznan has been on the receiving end of an attack. In May 2016, four men attacked a Palestinian. In November 2015, three men beat up a Syrian.
