India and Malaysia agreed to cooperate in renewable energy, especially in biomass, hydropower, solar and wind power, an official said Thursday.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed here Wednesday by India's Minister of New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah and Peter Chin Fah Kui, Malaysian minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water.

Both countries also agreed to form a Joint Working Group for joint research, exchange and training of scientific and technical personnel, exchange of available scientific and technologies information and transfer of know-how, technology and equipment on a non-commercial basis.

The Indian minister also briefed his Malaysian counterpart on India's progress in renewable energy and its efforts in promoting energy for remote and un-electrified areas.
